Caffeine in Tea: Finding a Comfortable Routine

Caffeine is one reason the same tea can feel different at breakfast and late in the evening. The amount in a cup is not fixed: the leaf, serving size and brewing method all matter. A strong, repeated infusion is a different experience from a lightly brewed cup.
Adjust one thing at a time
If caffeine affects your sleep or comfort, try a smaller serving, drink tea earlier or choose a different evening drink. Keep track of coffee, energy drinks and other sources too. Avoid treating a tea label such as “light” as a measured caffeine claim unless the product provides a tested figure.
Know when to ask
Individual sensitivity varies. Pregnancy, medication and some health conditions can change what advice is appropriate, so ask a clinician when those apply. The US FDA caffeine guide explains why general intake figures are not a personal target for everyone.
Choose tea for its flavour first, then adapt the routine to your needs.
